      George A. Kokines Obituary, published in the Hartford Courant on February 20, 2011:
      KOKINES, George A. George Alec Kokines, 70, of Simsbury, beloved husband of the late Judith (Greene) Kokines, passed away on Thursday (February 17, 2011). He was born August 27, 1940 in New York City, NY, to the late Vasilios and Pauline Kokines, who were immigrants from the great nation of Greece. George attended P.S. 189 grammar school and graduated from Washington Heights High School in 1958. George attended Bradley University in Peoria, IL, where he excelled at basketball and graduated with a degree in Political Science. George wa a faithful member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Tariffville. He had many friends and was deeply grateful for the fellowship of a 12 step program. George supported many charities and had a deep sense of pride in the town of Simsbury, where he lived for almost 30 years. he was demonstratively proud of all his children and grandchildren and their many accomplishments. George's distinguished career included executive positions with Transnational Communication, Inc., where he worked with the Boston Celtics, Hudson's Department Stores, The May Company, and finally, Pratt and Whitney, where he recently celebrated his retirement. George dearly loved his late wife, Judy, and is survived by their three children and their spouses and four grandchildren; George's daughter and son-in-law, Penelope and kevin Sanborn and their sons, Nicholas and Alexander of Simsbury; his eldest son and daughter-in-law, William and Melissa Kokines and their sons, Michael and Christopher, of Tariffiville; and George's youngest son and daughter-in-law, Jon and Rachel Kokines of Simsbury. He also leaves behind his beloved dog, Pokey. George is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Elaine and Phil Petron of Easton, and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents he was predeceased by his sister, Vivian Parlamis. George, life coach to many, always had advice you could count on. His sense of humor was matched only by his uncanny sense of awareness. George will always be remembered for his boisterous personality, stunning good looks and his ability to love and be loved by all who knew him. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday (February 24), 10 a.m., at Trinity Episcopal Church, 11 Church St, in the Tariffville section of Simsbury. Burial will follow in Simsbury Cemetery, Simsbury. His family will receive friends on Wednesday (February 23) from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Rd., Avon.
